L-Arabinose Powder | Natural Sucrose Blocker Active
Product Information
Overview. YaoSynBio L-Arabinose is a naturally occurring five-carbon monosaccharide (pentose) extracted from the hemicellulose fraction of abundant agricultural biomass — primarily corn cobs and sugarcane bagasse. Present in many fruits and plant fibers, L-arabinose tastes mildly sweet but is barely metabolized by the human body, making it a valuable functional sugar. Our grade is supplied as a high-purity (≥99%) white crystalline powder suitable for both food and cosmetic applications.
Mechanism. L-Arabinose selectively inhibits intestinal sucrase, the enzyme responsible for breaking down sucrose, reducing sucrose absorption by approximately 70% and blunting post-meal blood glucose and insulin spikes. Because it is poorly absorbed and largely fermented in the gut, it also acts as a prebiotic, feeding beneficial microflora. In cosmetic and functional contexts, its ability to limit sugar metabolism helps suppress the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), supporting anti-glycation and skin-aging benefits.
Applications. In food, L-Arabinose is typically added at 3%–5% relative to sucrose content in sugar-reduced beverages, confectionery, baked goods, and dietary supplements aimed at blood-sugar management. In cosmetics (0.5%–3%), it is used in anti-glycation and anti-aging formulations. It holds EU Novel Food approval (2021), is compliant with EC 1223/2009 for cosmetic use, carries US FDA GRAS status.
